Command Line IDL for Windows

QUESTION: Is there a command line version of IDL for Windows computers, like there is for UNIX computers?

ANSWER: This has been on a lot of people's wish lists for a long time. Now, apparently, if I can believe what I've just seen, the people's prayers have been answered. Abraham Campbell, an ITTVIS engineer, announced on 10 December 2007 a downloadable program that allows IDL to be run as a Windows console application. It works with IDL 7.0, and not with previous versions of IDL for Windows. Download the zip file and install the idl.exe file anywhere. To start the application, just double-click the file. (Read the included documentation file for additional information about what else can be done with this long-awaited program.)
