Problems with IDL and Oct 2007 Macintosh Leopard Release

QUESTION: Yikes! I just upgraded my Macintosh with the October 2007 Leopard operating system release and IDL is going bonkers. None of my widget or graphics programs work anymore. Is anyone else having problems?

ANSWER: Yes, you are not alone. Something appears to be seriously amiss with the Leopard X11 release. Here is what one IDL user did to fix the problem.

This problem seems to be the result of the X11 changes in 10.5. Restoring the 10.4 version of X11 fixes the problem. Its not a pretty solution, but it did get me back in business.

Updates and possible fixes will be posted as I become aware of them.

Notice from ITTVIS (31 OCT 2007):

A patch for IDL 6.4 that enables it to run on the recent release of Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) is now available. (Original link is now corrected by ITTVIS.)

Also, the upcoming IDL 7.0 release scheduled for later in November will support Mac OS X 10.5.
