Missing IDL Command Line

QUESTION: I've just instaled ENVI+IDL, but when I fire it up, all I see is the ENVI program bar. Where the heck is my IDL command line or Workbench?

ANSWER: Humm. The same thing happened to me, and everyone thought I was crazy. The answer was supplied by Robert Moss.

By default the IDL Workbench is iconized when you start ENVI+IDL, which is why you might not notice it. If this is what is happening and you would prefer that the Workbench not be iconized when you start ENVI+IDL, you can change that behavior by editing the <blah>\ITT\IDL70\idlde\envi_idl.ini file and removing the "- minimized" line.

If you are seeing ENVI but not the IDL Workbench at all (iconized or not), then you are using a runtime ENVI license, not a full license. Be sure your ENVI+IDL shortcut is pointing at <blah>\ITT\IDL70\idlde\envi_idl.exe.

Version of IDL used to prepare this article: IDL 7.1.1
